UCCRN was front and center at the Adaptation Futures 2023 Conference in Montreal this year, both as a conference sponsor and session organizer. The network hosted two well-attended sessions, and our members participated in events throughout the week.

We look forward to supporting the science and organization of the next Adaptation Futures Conference in Christchurch, New Zealand (2025).

On Tuesday, October 3rd, UCCRN hosted a session on “Key Findings from UCCRN’s Third Assessment Report on Climate Change and Cities” at the Adaptation Futures 2023 Conference in Montreal. UCCRN's panel session shared critical research takeaways and policy recommendations from the first Elements of UCCRN’s Third Assessment Report on Cities and Climate Change (ARC3.3). During the panel discussion, Coordinating Lead Authors (CLAs) presented how ARC3.3 findings can be leveraged to achieve transformative urban adaptation across multiple scales and sectors.

A full room of participants learned about ARC3.3’s key findings first-hand and had an opportunity to ask questions. Adaptation Futures 2023 was the first time that ARC3.3’s cutting-edge climate research was released for discussion amongst scholars and scientists.

Thank you to our panelists Janelle Knox-Hayes, Matia Leone, Darshini Mahadevia, Diana Reckien, and Oleksandr Sushchenko and to our moderator, Robin Leichenko.

If you would like to watch the full recording of UCCRN's knowledge-sharing session, please reach out to Maria Dombrov, UCCRN Global Coordinator and ARC3.3 Project Manager.

UCCRN_edu is an Erasmus+ cooperation project whose purpose is to provide climate resilience capacity building and education on climate-resilient urban planning, design and governance. Climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation from an urban perspective.

We were also happy to connect with UCCRN members Aditya Bahadur, Aysin Dedekorkut-Howes, Malgosia Madajewicz, Chantal Pacteau, and Gina Ziervogel throughout the week.

Looking ahead to COP28 in Dubai, UCCRN is co-organizing a UNFCCC Side Event on "Making NAPs more efficient - New Futures to bridge the NAP-Gap" with GIZ; IISD / NAP Global Network, BBC Media Action, University of Twente, and Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
